Set up your sender and domain

Prove your emails really come from you, then choose the name and address they are sent from.

Who can do this: Workspace owners and admins.

Before you start

  • A domain you own, such as yourshop.com.
  • A login for wherever you manage that domain (for example GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare or Squarespace).

Steps

  1. Step 1: Open Domain Authentication

Go to Settings, then Domain Authentication.

    Open Domain Authentication
  2. Step 2: Add your domain

Under "Add a Domain", type the domain you send from, like yourshop.com (no www and no @), then click Add Domain.

  3. Step 3: Open its DNS records

Under "Your Domains", click your domain to show its records. Each record has a Type, a Host and a Value, with a button to copy each one.

  4. Step 4: Add the records where your domain is managed

Sign in to your domain provider, open the DNS settings for your domain, and add one record for each row Envoi shows. Paste the Host and Value exactly as they appear.

  5. Step 5: Click Verify

Back in Envoi, click Verify next to your domain. DNS changes can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours to show up. The row tells you how many records are verified so far, and the badge changes to Verified once they all are.

  6. Step 6: Add a sender

Scroll down to Senders. Under "Add a sender", enter a Name your customers will recognise (like your shop name), type the part of the address before the @ (like hello), choose your verified domain, and click Add sender. Your first sender becomes the default.

  7. Step 7: Choose your default sender

If you add more than one sender, click Make default on the one most of your emails should come from. Campaigns use the default unless you pick a different From address in the campaign.

Good to know

  • Until you have a default sender, emails go out from a shared Envoi address.
  • Addresses at Gmail, Yahoo or Outlook cannot be used, because nobody but those companies can add DNS records to their domains. Use a domain you own.
  • You can only add a sender once its domain shows Verified.
