Import your contacts
Bring your list in from a spreadsheet. You match the columns and check a preview before anything is saved.
Who can do this: Workspace owners, admins and marketers.
Before you start
- Your contacts saved as a CSV file, with column names in the first row and at least an email column. Most spreadsheet apps can save a CSV.
Steps
Step 1: Open the importer
Go to Contacts and click Import. On a phone, it is the upload icon at the top of the page.
Open the importerStep 2: Upload your file
Drop your CSV onto the box, or click the box to choose the file. Files can be up to 10MB. Not sure how to lay it out? Click Download Template for an example file.
Step 3: Match your columns
For each column in your file, pick the contact field it belongs to. Email is required. Then click Preview Import.
Step 4: Keep your unsubscribes
If your file says who has unsubscribed, match that column to Subscription status. If you skip this, everyone in the file is imported as subscribed, and people who opted out would get your emails again.
Step 5: Bring SMS consent separately
Texting consent is not email consent. If your file has a column saying who agreed to texts, match it to SMS consent, then choose the brand they agreed to hear from and confirm they gave it express written consent. An imported yes never overrides someone who already opted out of texts.
Step 6: Check the preview
Envoi shows how many rows are valid, how many are invalid, and how many appear twice in the file, along with the first few rows. Choose what happens to people already in your account: Skip existing contacts or Update existing contacts.
Step 7: Import
Click the Import button, which shows how many contacts will be imported. When it finishes you get a summary of what was added, updated or skipped. Click Done to go back to your contacts.
Good to know
- If your plan has room for fewer contacts than your file holds, Envoi tells you on the preview, before you import.
- Rows without a usable email address are skipped. You can download them from the preview to fix and import again.
- Moving from Klaviyo? Bring your whole account over instead, with consent and engagement history: see "Bring your Klaviyo account over".
