Bring your Klaviyo account over

Connect Klaviyo with a read-only key. Envoi shows you what comes over before it writes anything, then brings over your people, lists, consent and engagement history.

Who can do this: Workspace owners, admins and marketers.

Before you start

  • A Klaviyo login that can create a private API key.
  • If you text people: the SMS brand they agreed to hear from, registered under SMS > 10DLC. You can also assign texting consent to a brand later.

Steps

  1. Step 1: Open Migrations

Go to Contacts, click Import, then click "Bring your whole account over". Click Klaviyo.

    Open Migrations
  2. Step 2: Create a read-only key

Click "Create the key in Klaviyo". Klaviyo opens with read access to Accounts, Events, Lists, Metrics, Profiles, Segments and Subscriptions already ticked. Name the key Envoi, create it, and copy it.

  3. Step 3: Paste it and connect

Paste the key and click Connect Klaviyo. Envoi checks the key, then counts what is in your account. Nothing is written while it counts. A large account takes a few minutes.

  4. Step 4: Read what comes over

Envoi shows how many people come over, how many are already here, and how many will never be emailed because they unsubscribed, bounced, complained, or use a shared or throwaway address. It lists your lists and segments, your engagement history, and anything it cannot bring over.

  5. Step 5: Answer two questions

Say how these people joined your list and confirm none of it was bought, rented or scraped. If people agreed to texts, choose the brand they agreed to hear from and confirm their consent, or leave texting consent unattributed for now.

  6. Step 6: Start it

Click "Start bringing it over". You can leave the page: the migration carries on, and the bar shows where it is. Pause stops it, and Resume carries on from where it stopped.

  7. Step 7: Check the result

When it finishes, Envoi shows what came over and sorts subscribed people by their last open or click. People with no open or click in over a year are tagged cold_at_import so a warmup leaves them out. The key is deleted.

Good to know

  • Unsubscribes, bounces and spam complaints come over with their reasons, and Envoi never emails them.
  • Someone who already opted out of texts here stays opted out, whatever Klaviyo says.
  • Segments whose rules Envoi can read come over as live segments. The rest come over as lists named "From Klaviyo: ..." with today's members.
  • Opens made by Apple Mail Privacy stay on each person's timeline but never count as engagement.
  • If Klaviyo refuses the key partway through, the migration pauses. Create a new key from the same Klaviyo account, click "Use a new key", paste it and click Resume.
  • A migration left waiting for its review, or paused, for 14 days ends on its own, and Envoi deletes the key. What already came over stays.
  • Running it again is safe: nobody is added twice and no event is counted twice.
